Today we began talking about the Reading Workshop and the Writing Workshop.  First I read a book called, Reading Makes You Feel Good.  Then we talked about where we read, when we read, and who we can read to.  Then we sat at our tables and read for about 10 minutes.  That's a really long time when your only 5 years old.  We will work on increasing our reading time over the next few weeks. 

To introduce the Writing Workshop, I read the book called, The Dot.  It's about a little girl who thinks that she can't draw.  She starts by making a dot on the paper.  The teacher says, "sign it" and then frames it.  That encourages the girl to believe that she can make an even better dot.  We learned that all you have to do is try your best...and sign it.

We also began putting together our Learning Journal.  This will hold any science and social studies projects.  The kids were very excited to see their work put together in a book.
