Weekly Update

In Math, we have been counting and sorting our math tools (bears, clowns, buttons, cubes).  We practiced counting by snapping cubes together one at a time.  I rolled dice and the kids had to snap that many cubes together.  We've also been playing a fun game called the "number train."  The kids sit in two rows like a train.  I hold up a card.  The first two kids shout the number as fast as they can.  The child who said it first gets to stay in his/her spot and the other child goes to the back of the line.  If you "win" three times in a row, you get a stamp.  The kids love it.  We play the same game in the morning using letters and I call it the "alphabet train."

This week in Reading, we have been talking about the different characters in the books we read together.  The kids have really enjoyed sharing their feelings about the characters.   Then we draw a picture of our favorite part of the book.

In Writing, we have started working in our first journal.  First, we draw a story and then write letters/words to go with our picture.  We are going to work more on adding details to our pictures and hearing the beginning sounds in words.

In Science, we read a book called "What Is Science?"  We learned that scientists ask questions, measure, and explore.  The kids drew a pictures of themselves as scientists.  We will continue to review safety rules this week and then really dig in to science when we learn about the 5 senses next week.

The Scholastic Book Order has been submitted, so the books should be here any day.  Thanks for helping support our classroom library :)

Thank you for all of the donations.  They are MUCH appreciated :)
